A few months back I heard this story…..
ABOUT a preacher who went to Africa. As he moved around, the sun was extremely hot and he was thirsty. He went towards a small shop, and wondered if he would get good water to drink. But on coming up to the shop the keeper immediately asked “ Sir, do you want a coke, and it is chilled.” This surprised him. He thought the Coca cola which is about a 125 years old has reached the remote places of Africa. But the Gospel message of Jesus Christ our Saviour, Healer and deliverer, which was commissioned 2000 years ago has yet to reach millions on the globe. What could the reasons be ?
The Lord Jesus said in Mat 5:14 You are the light of the world.
In other words each one of us who believe in Christ has got the power or the dunamis or the anointing to impact not only family and friends but to reach the world with the light of the gospel within us. We have to honestly examine our place in our family, Church, and community. How much have we earnestly contributed to reach out this light ? Are all our programmes always looking inwards or are they looking outwards. Has the heart of missions from the Church failed ? Has the Church forgot to equip and to send out.
The heartbeat of the Lord has not changed. It is still the same as the Bible says in Isa 6:8
Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying: “Whom shall I send, And who will go for Us?”
Then I said, “Here am I! Send me.”
For some of us the missions fields can be our families, friends, relatives and office friends, our neighbourhood to start with. For the one who is seeking and available the Lord will show innovative ways to reach the unreached. For some the call may be to Go into the world and preach the gospel to every creature. But as we see it all began after the coming of the Holy Spirit on the day of Penteost and they were witnesses first in Jerusalem, then Judea, Samaria and then to the uttermost parts of the earth.
If there are many drops that make an ocean and if what the Lord Jesus said in Matt 5:14 is true, then each one of us has a long way in shining our lights to the world. He has put unimaginable power in us through the Holy Spirit to reach and impact a dying world that we are living in. We are called not to fear them who destroy the body but to Fear HIM. We are called to think as He thinks, for as a man thinketh in his heart so is he. So today let us agree with what the Lord says.
God needs us and wants to depend upon us Today. Let us align our thinking to fulfill our responsibilities first in family, then others individuals, Church, Community, City, nation and then enter into the World before the trumpet sounds.
Coming up: The Joshua project, the 10 40 window and the unreached areas in the world.
